My Fishy Adventures in Wales : Kidwelly & Burry Port (180624) 4K
I went to Wales on the hunt for mullet and bass on the fly, I ended up catching smooth-hound on a new beach rod I had to buy because the wind made fly fishing and spinning almost impossible.
I did catch a monster smooth-hound though!

Fly Fishing British Columbia : Day 8 River Skeena - Groundhog Day (02-09-23) 4K
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.11 месяцев назад
When I signed up for the British Columbia trip I was expecting lots of different locations. However it turned out a bit like Groundhog Day fishing the same spot 6 times over. The positive side to Groundhog Day was that we caught fish pretty much every day. So every tree has a silver lining. But I need to return so I can fish the truly wild spots that have beauty beyond belief...........

And at the end of the day a rapid transfer back to Terrace to the Fishy Tales Tackle Shop to buy some new gear for the rest of the trip!
Fly Fishing British Columbia : Day 3 Skeena - Google Search "Flossing" Pacific salmon (28-08-23) 4K

This video shows the guide teaching me this “technique” at no point did they discuss how it was hooking them. Google search "flossing" for sockeye and chum. I did it for one session before I figured out what was really going on. Expert guides really can catch a fish a cast using this approach. But it’s not quite what I went to BC to do.

This is the review of my recent visit to British Columbia. The trip of a lifetime, turned into a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride. Fly fishing Rutland Water doesn’t get any better than when it is full on buzzer season. I decided to try and avoid the shoals of stocked fish in Hideaway Bay, to try and catch an overwintered fish. It didn’t quite work out how I wanted but I had a full on buzzerfest while constantly drifting to cover new water.

Fly fishing Rutland Water often sees us in pursuit of monsters. Having given the monster stockies of New Zealand Point a 2 day head start on us, Tony Mould and I decided to see if we could find them from the boat. Tactics involved a Di7 sweep line and two Humumgous lures 10 feet apart and allowing them to hang for what seemed a lifetime. And we caught, but was it a monster.........

Theres feeding mullet and theres frenzied feeding mullet. The frenzied variety will take a fly more readily than the latter. Seeing mulet grazing is my biggest learning. I think they go in to frenzy mode and sound like pigs at a trough. I think I've learned that fly takeable mullet , have to exhibit this frenzied behaviour...not always the case, as some anglers do well fishing static on muddy estuaries...

John sorry to hear your story, its a story that we hear on a regular basis. Thats why as a company we check out and validate all the destinations that we run. It is all to easy for a lodge to make a great looking website and promising the earth. This is such a bad representation of Canada and what great fishing the Skeena offers for all types of Salmon and Steelhead. The lodge you have travelled to only gives the area and the true good guides who work hard a bad name. John feel free to give us a call and we will be only too pleased to help you in the future, you will get 100% advice, we make sure the destination matches your expectations and if we think you are expecting too much we will tell you what is and is not possible. Plus we provide great detail pre trip information about what to take and not to takeso you are well prepared before you arrive. basicl;y the more prepared you are the easier it is for our guides and also you are much more likely to have a great time and rebook with us, so it is worth while us investing time in you. Not for me.Reminds me of the first day of the season at a lot of waters, with everyone clammering over best spot for and shoulder to shoulder to get the best sport rather than share.Much different to your Rutland videos with light tackle, dry flies and buzzers, etc, where you have the tranquility and beauty of that amazing reservoir.Well done though John for showing us fly fishing in other places in the world.

As a Canadian, we have many high-altitude reservoirs that rival our natural lakes in terms of beauty. Most of us prefer exploring wild waters and seeking out wild fish, but it's not always feasible. The Skeena River and the other famous rivers surrounding Terrace, BC, are quite popular among anglers. While many people may be after salmon, most Canadians and Americans specifically target the highly esteemed Steelhead. Due to the limited number of rivers and fishing spots, it is wise to rise early to secure a good location. I can assure you that I will never forget the experience of hooking and landing a 20lb Steelhead.

Don’t even get me started on that! Should be no more than three anglers in that spot.

I’m doing OK! I do this as much for myself as others. It’s a nice way to capture the memories.

Yes a wonderful memory steel head number 1 and when I caught it there were just three of us on the point as was agreed to give us more space - did not last long though !!
